Product Review and Swatches: Urban Decay Apocalyptic (Nailpolish) Kit

When Hautelook had their Urban Decay sale a few months ago, I just know I had to check out and see what goodies they had in store. And besides, Urban Decay is probably one of my favorite makeupline, not just because of their super cute packaging and witty product names, but because of the awesome quality that you're getting when you buy their products.

First item I saw was this baby right here, Urban Decay's Apocalyptic Kit that has seven different shades of nail lacquer goodness. Getting the kit was probably the best way try their nailpolishes without being stuck with a full bottle of what you hate, yet having the variety of colors to play with!

Product Blurb (via Urban Decay): OMG! It’s finally back… Urban Decay Nail Enamel! What better way to celebrate than with this case SEVEN gorgeous shades. An elegant lineup of our predictions for this season’s “it” polishes, these commitment-free mini bottles allow you to indulge without feeling indulgent.

Black polish addicts will find new loves Apocalypse (almost black eggplant), Grunge (metallic peacock), and Gunmetal (gunmetal sparkle). Old school UD fans will remember Big Bang (shimmery hot pink). Sexpots will love the true red, Fbomb, and Meltdown (royal purple). And fashion junkies will love shimmering White Widow. You can’t wait to try them, right?!

Just as before, our Nail Enamel is formulated without Toluene, Formaldehyde, or DBP. But this time around, you’ll take advantage of new anti-chip technology. And, each bottle features a 220-strand brush for smooth application. Packed into a deep, metallic purple faux leather case that zips closed – perfect for trips, and an awesome UD gift.

First thing I noticed when I opened up my package is the case the kit came with. A metallic purple zippered-pouch with a clear front that showcases the different color of nail polishes. The pouch itself is super cute (and not tacky at all) and made well. I can definitely use it as a small makeup bag.

Here's a picture of how the nail polishes compare in size with a China Glaze nailpolish. They're super tiny. Easy to stow in your purse as well as it's easy to lose it.

And here are the swatches for all seven yummy colors. Pardon my ugly fingers. Not gonna lie, I'm no hand model LOL.

Swatches

My personal favorite out of the seven would be Meltdown (royal purple), White Widow, and Fbomb (true red).

I love, love, love Meltdown. I rocked this color during my trip to Boston to show off my LA pride (with my LA Lakers shirt, ya dig?). This purple I would describe as the Laker purple. Of course, I was also rocking this during the playoffs. So for all the Laker Fans, Meltdown would be your nail polish for sure!

I was always iffy about White Widow when I first swatched it. I've always stray away from painting my nails all white since white nail polish reminds me too much of whiteout. I only really favor white nail polish if I want my nails in french tip. But White Widow might have changed my opinion on white nail polish. This particular lacquer is not flat white, but it has a slight tinge of grey. I really love this as a nail color on my finger nails. It's a really trendy and playful color for being a white nail polish.

And I always have knack for red nail polish. Red will always be my go to color. It's safe for work and it'll always be a classic and clean look. I really love the tint of this red. It's so bright and bold yet not over the top.

And among my favorites, my least favorite of the seven would be Grunge. I actually loved it initially when I was swatching it, but once it went on my toe nails, it was just a no go for me. Grunge made my toes look... grungy. It's not a good pedicure color since it does make your toe nails like they're dead. Probably not going to use this shade for my pedicure anymore.

Aside from one color, not being able to capture my heart, I really love this kit. Definitely a great way to try out Urban Decay's nail lacquers without breaking the bank.
