O.P.I Katy Perry Collection (Review and Swatches)

O.P.I's collaboration with Katy Perry was probably the most anticipated nail polish collection for me. I'm not one to search high and low for a nail polish, but this was definitely an exception. With all the buzz and press release images that's been floating around the web for Shatter a few months ago, I knew I had to get my hands on it.

Click on the link below to see what I have to say about this collection.

If you had missed my previous post, you can view the swatches for this collection here: O.P.I Katy Perry Collection Swatches.

I wasn't really expecting to get the whole nail polish line and was only on a mission to get Shatter. But after seeing all of them in person, I ended up grabbing one of every color (except for Shatter that I got 5 bottles to for back-up and for a giveaway... so stay tuned for a giveaway soon!).

(L to R): Teenage Dream, The One That Got Away, Not Like the Movies, Last Friday Night, and Shatter

Teenage Dream (sheer cotton candy pink microglitter and holographic glitter) - This nail polish is just too cute for words without the childish appeal. Sometimes I'm a little iffy about glittered nail polishes since they can either be too festive or might look like a nailpolish a child will wear. But this nailpolish's glitter are really fine and not chunky. Although this nail polish was sheer, after two coats this nail polish was looking cute on my fingers. Since my fingers are on the shorter side, putting shatter as a top coat (even with a thin layer) might not be a good idea for this. The glitter will barely show up through the cracks of my tiny fingernails. And besides, I'll prefer this to be worn alone. Great color if you want to get in the spirit of Valentine's Day!

The One That Got Away (deep magenta color with gold flecks) - I love this color. It kind of reminds me of MAC's Bad Fairy from the Venomous Villian collection because of the magenta with gold flecks (although this is not really a duo-chrome color). This nail polish looks really good underneath shatter. It's a bright and deep color that clashes nicely with the black. It's also a good nail polish on it's own.

Not Like the Movies - (olive/grey/lavender (depending on the lighting) duo-chrome with silver flecks) - Not Like the Movies really reminds me of Orly's Space Cadet which I'm in love with. I've still yet to do a side by side comparison whether they're an exact dupe or not.
However, they're both duo-chrome nail polishes with the olive, grey, and lavender depending on the lighting or the angle. This nail polish also looks great underneath Shatter (as if this isn't an already interesting nail polish on its own).

Last Friday Night - (very sheer blue base with microglitters and holographic glitter) - This might be my least favorite out of the whole line. Last Friday Night is a really, really sheer nail polish that even with four coats already, it's still sheer. It's not like it's other glitter partner, Teenage Dream, that gives a nice color payoff after two applications. And forget about using this underneath Shatter, because it won't really show as much underneath and can look quite messy. I'll probaby use this nail polish more of as top coat than on its own.

Shatter (matte black cracked top coat) - This definitely did not disappoint. I'm really loving the cracked effects on my finger nails and you can definitely see it happening within seconds after application. This is the reason why I want to redo my nails almost everyday. It gives your nails a fresh look without spending a lot for a manicure at a salon. You'll need a top coat after applying Shatter on since it can look very dull looking since it's a matte color. And if you have smaller fingernails, just apply a very thin coat of it and let it work it's magic. Applying a thick layer or multiple coats doesn't always yield good results.

I've never been so excited over a nail polish. For the most part all of the colors for this line I'm definitely loving. I didn't experience any streakyness with any of the nail polishes.

Overall Rating: 4.5 out of 5

Were you able to get anything from this line especially Shatter? I heard they've been sold-out at most Ulta stores. Check out other O.P.I retailers and maybe you'll have better luck (i.e. Trade Secrets, etc). Share your experiences if you were able to get at least one of them! If not, stay tuned for my giveaway for a chance to win Shatter and The One That Got Away nail polishes. Details to follow.

  1. wow those all look so gorgeous...i get what you mean about the glitter ones though, i tend to stay away from sheer glitter polishes most of the time for the same reasons the shatter polish loks so cool though, i might have to check it out! :)
